Why do we ride?
We have a number of people living with MS who participate in the MS Melbourne Cycle, but there are many people with MS who are not able to ride 46km or in some circumstances, not well enough to ride at all.
Ride for someone you know with MS
If you have a family member or friend who has MS, show your support for them by officially riding on their behalf. This will enable both of you to enjoy the event experience and fundraise together! You can also load a photo of you and the person you are riding for onto your very own web page.
Ride for an MS Ambassador
If you do not know someone with MS but would like to ride on someone's behalf, you can choose to ride on behalf of Carol Cooke, the official MS Ambassador for the 2012 MS Melbourne Cycle.
Carol is a self-confessed sports fanatic and workaholic who has been living with the challenges of multiple sclerosis since 1998. After leaving full time employment in 2001, Carol founded the 24 Hour Mega Swim to raise funds for MS Australia’s Go for Gold scholarship program. Ten years later, there are swims running in three states and the ACT and over $3 million has been raised for the scholarships, which allow people living with MS to follow
a dream.
Not content with being an elite swimmer and always ready to tackle a new challenge, Carol has taken up the sport of para-cycling, competing in the Trike class. She recently competed at the 2011 Para-cycling World Road Championships held in Denmark, winning silver in both the time trial and road race. Her sights are now firmly set on winning gold at the 2012 Paralympics on London.
Although living with the never-ending symptoms of this unpredictable disease, Carol has the strength and courage to get up each day with a positive and motivated attitude. She has learnt to live for today and not worry about what may or may not happen in the future.
Carol believes that "nothing is impossible if we dare to face our fears and believe in ourselves and believes that the greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do."
