Changes and Improvements
MS Australia acknowledges that ongoing feedback from the event indicates issues with rider congestion in the first 10km of the route - particularly through the CBD.
We have been addressing these improvements and in 2011 implemented a variety of course improvements to help reduce the congestion.
In 2011 we implemented with success:
- Some changes to the cycle route to avoid congestion points.
- Road / lane closures through the CBD to increase space available for cyclists
- Changes to traffic light phasing through the CBD to allow for greater cyclist priority riding in the event
- Increased Police and Traffic Management staffing along the course
- Additional diversion routes for non-event traffic
We recognise that there are still further enhancements that can be made and we are currently reviewing for 2012:
- Additional changes to the cycle route to avoid congestion points
- Additional Police and Traffic Management staffing along the course
- Additional changes to traffic light phasing through the CBD to allow for greater cyclist priority riding in the event
- Changes to the cycle route to avoid congestion points identified in 2011
